National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT) - Overview

The National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT) supports the induction of newly qualified teachers (NQTs), both primary and post-primary, into the teaching profession in Ireland.

The NIPT provide five pillars of support:-

  • the NQT workshop programme
  • website support
  • school-based support
  • school visits and
  • professional support groups.

Please note this important Information for NQTs regarding registration requirements for the Teaching Council.
● NIPT Workshops are a requirement for NQTs in schools who are completing Probation (Primary) or PQE (Post Primary).
● Workshops are not a requirement for NQTs engaging in the Droichead process.
● However, NQTs participating in Droichead can count a workshop as an Additional Professional Learning Activity , with the agreement of their Professional Support Team in school.
● NQTs are required to attend one Cluster Meeting per term, in sequential order, for the duration of their Droichead process.
● For NQTs teaching in schools with 16 or more classroom teachers (Primary), or more than 400 pupils (Post-primary) or in a SEN Setting, the only route of Induction is via the Droichead process.

An Information Booklet for Newly Qualified Teachers will be available at the end of August to download.

The NIPT Workshop Programme is a series of two-hour workshops, designed to support the professional development of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs). The programme, run in collaboration with ATECI (Association of Education Centres of Ireland), Department of Education and Skills (DES) and the Teaching Council, is facilitated by practising teachers from local schools, in each of the 21 full-time education centres.
