17KEC223 An Introduction to ASD for SNAs

Please note: This course is a repeat of the courses that were held in Kildare E C last term.
This is a 4 hour interactive course for SNAs over 2 evenings delivered by an experienced ASD class teacher and SESS Advisor. The course covers elements that are relevant to both Primary and Post-Primary sectors.
Aspects covered will include:
- Current and historical theory about ASD
- The role of the SNA
- Characteristics of ASD and how they manifest in classroom situations
- Use of ICT with students with ASD
- Behaviour tracking and strategies
- Sensory issues and the classroom/school environment
- Transition from Primary to Post Primary and from Post Primary to further options, useful classroom resources.
