The Mental Health Awareness Initiative is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness among post-primary school teachers about student mental health and to highlight how teachers can play an active role as ‘One Good Adults in the lives of students. This workshop offers post-primary teachers an opportunity to learn how to promote and support mental health and wellbeing within the classroom, regardless of your subject area. This workshop is for ALL post-primary teachers. The initiative is being led by the Association of Teachers’/Education Centres in Ireland (ATECI) in collaboration with Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

This workshop aims to increase your knowledge and awareness of the following:

  • How you can play an active part in supporting and promoting mental health and wellbeing in school.
  • Why developing good relationships in the classroom and throughout the school is essential for students’ wellbeing.
  • Why teacher self-care is fundamental for you to support students mental health and wellbeing.
  • How to implement the REAL approach in the classroom which can support and promote the mental health needs of students (Recognise, Encourage, Actively Listen, Let Someone Know).
