Workshop 1 - The Student Voice

Tracy Talbot has always tried to make her lessons go beyond “chalk and talk”. Through her involvement in the Erasmus Student Voice Project, Tracy has her students play a more dynamic role in her class and in their learning. She hopes to give you some simple, practical activities to make your classes become positive, interactive learning spaces and encourage your students to be active participants

Workshop 2 - Digital Technologies to support Oral Literacy.

This practical hands-on workshop with Emma Gallagher will focus on developing skills in the audio-visual application EdPuzzle. Participants are asked to bring a digital device. It would be helpful if participants could create Teacher accounts in EdPuzzle prior to the workshop. Emma is a teacher of Irish and English in Marino College, CDETB. As the school's literacy link teacher Emma oversaw a digital initiative aimed at improving oral literacy in the school. The 'Hear Me Roar' project was awarded the bronze award at Digital School of the Year 2015. Emma has tutored in Drumcondra Education Centre for PDST Technology in Education. She is currently seconded to Junior Cycle for Teachers as Team Leader for English.

Workshop 3 - A Journey - Our Way to Wellbeing in St Dominic’s College.

Mary Daly is principal of St. Dominic’s College, Ballyfermot. It is a DEIS 1 school which prides itself in delivering equality of opportunity for all their students. As a school leader, Mary’s moral purpose has always been to address educational inequality, by encouraging innovative teaching and learning methodologies which engage her students to take an active, responsible and independent role in their learning. She believes that schools have a central role to play in supporting young people today in a world where students are exposed to a range of economic, political, environmental and social influences. They require support to develop certain skills to make positive responsible decisions relating to their health and wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. Mary and her colleagues Sarah Green and Cheryl Keeler will share their ongoing journey in this workshop.

Workshop 4 - Junior Cycle Planning Utilising Technology

Leslie Turner will demonstrate how ICT can be used to effectively help scaffold all elements of the Junior Cycle to streamline the planning process. Participants will see a practical demonstration of how this can be achieved through an online platform.

Workshop 5 - Planning for Effective Homework

Paula Mulhall is a Maths and Biology teacher in Phobalscoil Iosolde, Palmerstown. This workshop will outline the process Paula took to improve student engagement with homework and explore the benefits it brought to students in terms of both engagement and outcomes. Effective homework practices and their links to AFL will also be discussed.

Workshop 6 - Teaching Computational Thinking the Easy and Fun way

In this workshop, Stephen Howell will present the tiny micro:bit computer, which anyone can learn to build cool projects with. This will be a hands on workshop using arts and crafts skills, no coding or programming experience is required. Please bring any laptop or tablet with you if you want to try your hand at some easy coding.
