No previous knowledge or experience of SIX BRICKS is required
SIX BRICKS is a pedagogical approach developed by Care for Education in partnership with the LEGO® Foundation.
Six Bricks activities are short, simple exercises, many of which only take a couple of minutes to do. They are not a curriculum but they are designed to support all areas of development in the curriculum. They help to wake up a child’s brain and get them moving, thinking and remembering through playful learning.
Every child has a set of six bricks, one of each colour (Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Light blue and dark blue). The Teacher, Special Needs Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, etc. can then quickly and easily facilitate an activity at any time.
Repetition brings about better organization of the brain and the secret of the success of these activities lies in their regular repetition which enables children to consolidate new knowledge.
Six Bricks activities are in development all the time and there are now hundreds of activities supporting different areas of development/skills e.g. bilateral integration, crossing the mid-line, working memory, inhibitory control, depth perception, numeracy, literacy etc.
The SIX BRICKS Certificate course covering Levels 1 & 2 is an entry level course. It provides a broad based knowledge, understanding and live hands-on experience of SIX BRICKS and covers everything participants need to know to feel confident to set up and start using SIX BRICKS in their classrooms or with their groups.
The activities are suitable for all classes across Primary School and can be adapted and scaled up or down depending on the age and stage of the children or groups.
1. Participants will receive a training kit in advance of the course. This will include: a set of SIX BRICKS, laminated two sided Mats - Move and Learn and B Line Mat, 4 x lengths of ribbon, a large foam dice and a peg.
2. Electronic resources, training manuals etc. will also be provided and participants will have ongoing access post-course to Miriam’s repository of SIX BRICKS resources and support materials.
Certification: Six Bricks Levels 1 & 2. Full attendance and participation is required to qualify for Certification. Cameras need to be on so that participants can receive guidance and feedback. A laptop is required for the best experience.
Trainer: Miriam O Donoghue, Teacher & Education Consultant. Miriam is currently one of only four SIX BRICKS LEAD TRAINERS in the World endorsed/recognised by Care for Education to deliver training to level 4
