21KEC236 How to set up a School Garden



You are invited to a series of zoom talks on how to set up a school Garden presented by Patrick Hunt

Feb Talk: Thurs 25th February from 7.30pm-9pm

 Introduction to school gardening and my plan of work which was published in the Into Magazine over the summer 2020.  We will look at the elements of a school garden design and layouts.

March Talk: Thurs 11th March from 7.30pm-9pm

in this session we will look at setting up a raised bed from scratch on existing grass using the no dig method and how to grow potatoes, broadbeans and salad crops. We will also look at raising plants from seed in seed trays for planting out later and some good fruit tree and shrub varieties to grow.

April TalkThurs 15th April from 7.30pm-9pm 

This month we will look at growing peas and salad crops and some good perennial flowers and grasses for biodiversity and sensory areas.

 May Talk:  Thurs 6th May from 7.30pm-9pm

This month we will look at caring for the plants staking, pinching out and harvesting. We will also discuss what to do with the garden over the summer months


Patrick Hunt is a Gardening and Biodiversity specialist. He designs gardens, teaches gardening classes and run workshops for schools and community groups all with nature and sustainability in mind.  He has a deep knowledge of food growing, plants that support wildlife and how to design beautiful spaces that  fulfill a range of functions. He has facilitated summer courses approved by the DES on “Biodiversity and Gardening in Schools”.
