21KEC235 Bilingual English-Irish Shared Reading for the Linguistically Diverse Junior Primary Classroom

In this webinar, teachers will enhance their professional knowledge and practice in the area of dialogic shared reading, which has proven to be an effective strategy for children’s language and literacy development. The webinar focuses explicitly on how to facilitate dialogic shared reading, in both English and in Irish, in junior primary classrooms. This webinar provides practical and useful insights for the implementation of the Primary Language Curriculum. It focuses on both remote and on-site use of this strategy to support language learners.

Attendees will receive a handout with key strategies for dialogic shared reading. Breakout groups of 5 – 6 will be facilitated during the session.

Facilitator: Aoife Merrins-Gallagher (B. Ed, MTeach) PhD Scholar at DCU Institute of Education

Biography: Aoife is a primary teacher on career break from an urban school in West Dublin. She is a full-time PhD scholar of DCU’s Institute of Education. Her current research is concerned with the design, development and delivery of bilingual oral narrative programme Tell-a-Tale | Inis Scéal in junior infant classrooms. Aoife is passionate about oral language development, supporting children with EAL, bilingualism, inclusive educational practices and collaborative teaching.
