19KEC230 Biodiversity & Gardening in Schools

Date / Time:  Wed 20th March (7pm – 9pm)

Patrick Hunt will present a talk on what to be doing in the garden to prepare for the growing season ahead. We will look at what is involved with growing a number of vegetables in March such as Potatoes, Broadbeans, Onions, Garlic, Leeks, Spinach and Brassica salads. We will also look at some flowers, shrubs and trees to increase Biodiversity and what species these will attract. This will likely be the first in a series of talks which follow the seasons. The talk will include a slideshow and a practical demo on plant propagation techniques.

Patrick is a keen gardener and nature enthusiast. He provides talks and workshops for schools, libraries, community groups and the general public on wildlife, gardening and food growing. Patrick has developed a summer course ‘Biodiversity and Gardening in Schools’ for teachers which will be run through Kildare and West Dublin Education Centres in 2019. He also runs a monthly gardening course in the Hollywood Centre West Wicklow.
