22KESC412 Supporting Student Body Image
Supporting Student Body Image
Tuesday, 4th October 2022 from 7pm-8pm (ONLINE)
The challenges and pressures faced by students in today’s world outside the classroom have a large impact on their academic performance inside the classroom and their overall wellbeing. What it means to be a teenager is changing and so too is the job of a teacher. With issues such as body image concerns and social media pressures on the rise among young people in recent years the importance of being able to support these students has also increased.
This course gives teachers a toolkit of evidence-based strategies that will enable them to help students cultivate positive body image.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session teachers will be able to:
- Define what body image is
- Identify aspects of student behaviour that may indicate they are experiencing negative body image
- Build their confidence and skill set in promoting positive body image in their students
- Apply the content of this session in their own teaching and classroom practice to support students’ overall sense of self-worth.
This course is delivered by Sarah Mulvey who has also developed the Skills for Life Schools Programme in response to the need for wellbeing and body image education for secondary school students in Ireland.
