19KEC201 Spaced Learning Presentation
Date / Time: Mon 21st January 2019 (7pm-9pm)
Facilitator: Kieran McTigue
The workshop will introduce Spaced Learning to teachers and educators. Spaced Learning is an approach to learning that is based on recent neuroscientific research which aids memorisation of information in a more effective manner. Research has found that approaches such as Spaced Learning aid in improved memory recall and retrieval, making it an excellent methodology for use in the classroom. Owing to the more effective use of time in the classroom, more varied approaches and methodologies could be utilised, namely, walking debates, hot seat, project work, creativity/artwork, etc.
The approach can be used across a range of subjects and offers an effective, fun and interactive approach to learning. In particular, it has proven effective in expanding the educational experience of learners by offering them an opportunity to explore more novel and interesting ways of learning. Included in this are students who may hitherto have been disengaged in learning but also those students who wish be challenged more in their learning.
